- Provide evidence from within texts to support analyses and inferences drawn from texts.
- Determine themes of texts and their relationship to characters, setting, and plot.
- Provide objective summaries of texts.
- Analyze how specific dialogues or events in text push the action, describe characters, or provoke decisions.
- Determine the meanings of words or phrases as they are used in the text, including literal and figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and idioms.
- Compare and contrast the structure and style of two different texts.
- Analyze different points of view from the reader and characters within texts.
- Compare and contrast texts with their films or live productions.
- Read and comprehend literature at the high end of grades 7-8 texts independently and proficiently.
